Standard Return Window

90 days

Most unopened items sold by Target in new condition can be returned within 90 days for a refund or exchange. Some products have modified policies. Target Plus Partner purchases generally have a 30-day window and require proof of purchase.

Receipt Lookup

Eligible payment card or Target account

When the Clock Starts

In-store purchase date; Target.com orders generally start on delivery, delivery by a Shipt shopper, or in-store pickup. Online EBT purchases have a 90-day window from shipment, Shipt delivery, or readiness for pickup. Purchases through third-party delivery services must be handled with that service.

Target Return Policy Without a Receipt

Check your Target account or app for a return barcode, or bring your original payment method to Guest Services for an attempted receipt lookup. Target lists Circle Cards and third-party Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit cards for lookup. Without proof, an eligible return may receive a merchandise return card; government-issued ID is required for its issuance. Unverified returns may be limited or denied. Target Plus Partner returns require proof of purchase.

Bring the item, any packaging and accessories, your payment card, and photo ID if requested. Purchase lookup is not a guarantee of return approval.

Item Exceptions

These rules can override the standard window.

Can You Return Opened Items?

Opened or damaged items may be denied a refund or exchange. Most opened beauty products can be returned within 90 days with a receipt, or up to 120 days with a qualifying Circle Card purchase. Opened music, movies, games, software, and airbeds are exchange-only under specific conditions. Trading cards, personalized products, digital downloads, and unsealed breast pumps are among the final-sale exclusions.

Holiday & Membership Extensions

Do not assume a holiday or membership extension applies. Dates change by season and product. Check your order’s return-by date and the retailer’s current terms before relying on extra time.
